What is RAM, and how does it differ from a hard drive?

Modified on Wed, 2 Jul at 1:59 PM

RAM (Random Access Memory) is volatile memory used for temporary storage of data that the CPU is actively using. A hard drive (HDD) or Solid State Drive (SSD) is non-volatile storage used for long-term data storage. RAM is much faster than a hard drive but loses its data when the power is off.
