Computer Won't Start?

Modified on Wed, 25 Jun at 5:09 PM

Safety First: Turn off your PC, unplug it, hold the power button for 10 seconds, and touch metal on the case to remove static.

1. Check All Plugs:

  •     Make sure the computer's power cable is super tight in the wall and the back of the PC.
  •     Check if the monitor's power and data cables are plugged in tightly to both the monitor and the computer.
  •     Is the wall outlet working? (Test it).
  •     Unplug everything else (USB drives, printers, etc.) from the computer except the monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

2. Listen & Look:

  •     Plug the computer back in and press the power button.
  •     Do you hear fans? See any lights turn on (even for a second)? This tells you if it's getting power.

3. Basic Internal Check (Be Gentle!):

  •     Unplug the PC again.
  •     Open the computer's side panel.
  •     Find the long memory sticks (RAM) plugged into the main board. Gently push down firmly on both ends of each stick to make sure they're fully seated.
  •     Close the case, plug back in, and try turning it on.
