Browser Keeps Redirecting?

Step 1: Remove Suspicious Extensions

Open browser (Chrome/Edge/Firefox)

Go to Settings > Extensions

Remove anything you don’t recognize or didn’t install


Step 2: Reset Browser Settings

Chrome: Settings > Reset and clean up > Restore settings to original defaults

Firefox: Help > More troubleshooting info > Refresh Firefox


Step 3: Check and Remove Unwanted Programs

Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl, press Enter

Uninstall sketchy or unknown programs (e.g., “Search Helper”, “SafeSearch”, “Web Companion”)


Step 4: Run Malware Scan

Download and run Malwarebytes Free

(https://www.malwarebytes.com)

Do a Full Scan and remove anything it finds


Step 5: Change Homepage/Search Back

Go to browser settings

Set homepage and search engine back to what you want (e.g., Google)


Step 6: Reboot & Test

Restart your computer


Test browser again — should no longer redirect or pop up garbage
