The Computer Is Running Super Slow.

Modified on Mon, 7 Jul at 11:59 AM

1) Restart your computer:

  • This is the magic bullet for many temporary slowdowns. It clears out old programs and frees up memory

2)  Close unused programs:

  • Look at your taskbar (Windows) or Dock (Mac) and close any programs you aren't actively using. Many programs run in the background without you realizing it.

3) Check for too many startup programs:

  • On Windows, type "Task Manager" into the search bar, open it, and go to the "Startup" tab.
  • Disable any programs you don't need to launch automatically when your computer starts.
  • On Mac, go to System Settings/Preferences > General > Login Items and remove unnecessary apps.

 4) Free up disk space:

  • If your hard drive is nearly full, your computer will slow down.
  • Delete old files, uninstall programs you don't use, and empty your Recycle Bin/Trash.

5) Run a virus scan:

  • Malware can significantly slow down your computer.
  • Use your built-in antivirus software (like Windows Security) or a reputable third-party program to scan for and remove threats.
